The University of Georgia Athletic Association will aspire to be the nation’s premier Intercollegiate Athletics Program both academically and athletically; a model of excellence for others to emulate, while enhancing the lives of student-athletes and preparing them for life beyond athletics.

Thanks for the Memories!

"Anyone could give you the down and distance. Only Munson could give you the agony and the ecstacy."

"Florida in a stand-up five, they may or may not blitz, they won't. Buck back. Third down on the 8. In trouble. Got a block behind him. Going to throw on the run. Complete to the 25, to the 30. Lindsay Scott 35, 40. Lindsay Scott 45, 50, 45, 40. Run Lindsay! Twenty-five, 20, 15, 10, 5. Lindsay Scott! Lindsay Scott! Lindsay Scott! ... Well, I can't believe it. 92 yards and Lindsay really got in a footrace, I broke my chair, I came right through a chair, a metal STEEL chair with about a five inch cushion ... Do you know what is gonna happen here tonight? And up at St. Simons and Jekyll Island and all those places where all those Dawg people have got those condominiums for four days? MAN, is there gonna be some property destroyed tonight! 26 to 21, Dawgs on top! We were gone. I gave up, you did too. We were out of it and gone. Miracle!"

"Hunker down, you guys! If you didn't hear me, you guys, hunker down!...I know I'm asking a lot, you guys, but hunker it down one more time!"

"We hand it off to Herschel, there's a hole....5....10...12, he's running over people! Oh, you Herschel Walker!...My God Almighty, he ran right through two men! Herschel ran right over two men! They had him dead away inside the 9. Herschel Walker went 16 yards. He drove right over those orange shirts and is just driving and running with those big thighs. My God, a freshman!"

"Look at the sugar falling out of the sky!"

"So we'll try to kick one a hundred thousand miles. We're holding it on our own 49-and-a-half ... gonna try to kick it sixty yards plus a foot-and-a-half ... and Butler kicked a long one ... a long one ... Oh my God! Oh my God! ... The stadium is worse than bonkers! Eleven seconds, I can't believe what he did! This is ungodly!"

"We just stepped on their face with a hobnailed boot and broke their nose! We just crushed their face!"

"Man, we've had some shots, haven't we? Snap to David Greene, there he goes again in the corner and we jump up....Touchdown! Oh, God, a touchdown! In the corner with 85 seconds..."

"Our hearts they was torn out and bleeding, we picked it up and we stuck it back inside. I can't believe this. We won 27-24, and at the end we had no business winning this game."

Larry Munson called Georgia football games for more than 40 years. Nobody loved the Bulldogs more. (AJC photo)

All I Want This Season

I have no idea what the typical Georgia Bulldogs fan wants this season. It could be an SEC East title, an outright SEC Championship and I’m sure there are some that want a new coach. My wish for this season is much simpler than all that.

I want my old Dawgs back!

I want old school, hard-nosed defense. I want consistent effort from both sides of the ball. I want to watch a game and know that it matters to each and every player that they are wearing red and black and most of all the “G”.

The bottom line is, at least show up!

780 minutes of football start this Saturday…that’s all they have. That’s 13 games for you Boise fans. If “Ole Lady Luck” graces us with her presence, maybe 14 games and a return to the Dome. THAT would be awesome, but I’m commited to not getting hung up on numbers of wins and/or titles. I just want to see something different. A team that cares less about swagger and more about focus. A team that never gives up in any situation. A team that pulls together and never apart…that’s right, I want a TEAM!

I want my old Dawgs back!

"He doesn't have an ego where it's all about Coach Richt," offensive coordinator Mike Bobo said. "It is about the University of Georgia. He walks it. He lives it. Those guys see. The No. 1 reason we have been successful is he sells team, he believes in team and these guys believe in team and believe in him."

"I know teams where guys really can't go on and have a one-on-one relationship with their coaches. Here at Georgia we have relationships with all of our coaches. I feel that I have a good relationship with [defensive line coach Rodney Garner] and Coach Richt (defensive tackle Jeff Owens).

The Immortal Lewis Grizzard: “I thanked the Lord for 3 things: fried chicken, potato salad and for the fact that He had allowed me the privilege of being a Bulldog.  And, Dear Lord, I prayed, “Bless all those not as fortunate as I!”

"Then I would have to chase down hogs and we would have to cut off their scrotum, and then pour oil on it." Stanfill said, "When we did that, you never heard so much squealing in your life. I remembered that when I sacked Steve Spurrier (at Florida)." Bill Stanfill
